Melton Mowbray-based Samworth Brothers, the company behind Ginsters, is proposing to build a 10,650sq m food production facility at Mountsorrel in Leicestershire.

Samworth wants to develop the site at Rothley Lodge, just off the A6. In the planning application submitted to Charnwood Borough Council, the company said the proposal was part of its “continued business growth for the future”.

The food production and associated storage areas form a single-storey structure of 8,650sq m with a linked two-storey office/amenity area totalling 2,000sq m.

Last week, the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) announced it would stage a demonstration at Samworth’s Melton Mowbray factory on 26 June.
