Bad Brownie launches Kickstarter campaign to fund permanent site

Baking company Bad Brownie has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help open a dessert bar in central London.

Co-owners Morag Ekanger and Paz Sarmah are aiming to open a permanent site in Camden by spring next year, and want to raise £35k by 19 December to make it happen.

Bad Brownie appeared on the Dragons’ Den TV show in January, which Sarmah said has had a big impact in terms of consumer awareness of the company. On the show, the business secured investment from fashion and retail expert Touker Suleyman owner of fashion retailers Ghost and Hawes & Curtis.

Sarmah told British Baker its mission statement was to have “world domination by brownie”, adding it had wanted to open its own site for three years.

“The permanent site means we can take the next step to try different things, all including brownies or stuff we haven’t been able to do before while we have been in the market because of logistics and the issue you have without refrigeration,” he said.

“Depending on how the Camden one goes, we may have more niche shops that have a certain slant on desserts.”
