Hooray for Easter; an egg-citing time to tuck into delicious cakes and terrible egg puns.

This year’s bakery offerings include a runny passionfruit flavoured egg ‘yolk’ contained in a chocolate brownie shell, and tons of decadent baby-blue butter-cream. There’s plenty of Easter fancies to draw inspiration from, with ornamental painting and cake pops proving popular among 2018’s spring treats. Here are highlights from some of the UK’s most creative bakers:

Easter Chicken Cake Pops from
Popalicious

These unspeakably cute chickens are encased in candy and filled with chocolate cake. Packed with organic ingredients, they sit inside a lemon hued egg-box — making these tiny treats a quirky gift. They’ve been crafted by West Yorkshire bakery Popalicious — owned by mother of two Helen Mallik — who specialise in handmade cake pops, with an emphasis on top-tier ingredients.

Speckled Egg Cake from  Brett & Bailey

Run by a couple of lads in Crystal Palace, newly formed bakery Brett & Bailey craft organic cakes in a range of flavours across South London and online. Smothered in blue buttercream, speckled with chocolate, and packed with chocolate sponge and golden caramel layers; this delicately rendered cake topped with tiny mini eggs is the essence of all things spring.

Easter Egg Brownies from  Bad Brownie

These original and super-fun easter brownies bring a distinctly cakey theme to chocolate Easter eggs. Each brownie has a runny passionfruit and mango centre, surrounded by coconut fondant imitating egg whites. The entire creation is wrapped in dark chocolate brownie and finished off with speckled white chocolate.

They’ve been baked by London bakers Bad Brownie, who make brownies with a distinct attitude — infusing flavours such as earl grey and bacon into their creations.

Cipriani Easter Focaccia from  Fortnum and Mason

An alternative to the super-sweet onslaught of Easter baked goods, this stylish and minimalist focaccia (an artisanal sweet bread from Italy) makes for a scrumptious Good Friday breakfast served with salted butter or hot chocolate. Sold by Piccadilly department store Fortnum and Mason, who claims to have created the scotch egg  among other inventions  as part of its 400-year history.

Birdie Biscuit from  Peggy Porschen

A tiny work of art: these tweet-worthy birdie biscuits come in three striking floral prints, covering a chocolate biscuit base. Created by established Bergravia bakery and Instagram sensation Peggy Porschen, who remains a steady favourite with London’s A-listers.

Mini Egg Piñata Cake from  Primrose Bakery

This piñata cake is packed full of half a kilo of Mini Eggs and also features three layers of rich chocolate and vanilla marbled cake, which are both filled and topped with speckled white chocolate icing. Available in 6”, 8” or 10”, it’s finished off with a border of Mini Eggs and sprinkles on the sides. It was crafted by Primrose Bakery, which started out over a decade ago in the kitchen of the founding partners.

Easter Macarons from  English Rose Bakery

A gorgeous selection of hand-painted Easter egg shaped macarons, which look as if they’ve been dipped in water colours and gold leaf. The box includes the flavours: chocolate orange, salted caramel, hazelnut and nutella, lemon and strawberry. The macarons are handmade with free-range eggs. Baked in Oldham Street, these were created by the English Rose Bakery, who have been making speciality macarons since founder Emma Brown fell in love with them after a trip in Zurich.

Easter Cupcake Box from Lola’s Cupcakes

These lovely offerings — available in large and miniature — are both beautifully crafted and imaginative, adorned with chocolate cornflake nests, vaguely luminescent purple swirling, mini-eggs and white chocolate bunnies. They were handmade in London by Lola’s Cupcakes,  a long-running bakery that started out with concessions at Selfridges and Topshop.

Egg Sheeran Doughnut from Doughnut Time

Doughnut Time features some truly unique doughnuts and an array of inspired pun bake names. The aptly titled Egg Sheeran doughnut is filled with chocolate custard and strawberry glaze, topped with mini eggs and confetti sprinkles, and drizzled with cream glaze. Initially starting out as a hole-in-the-wall shop in Brisbane, Doughnut Time now runs multiple stores selling adventurous doughnuts across London.
