Puratos has launched its first branded fillings to be produced at the Fruitapeel operation acquired in 2017.

At the time of the deal, Puratos said it had bought the Lancashire-based fruit fillings and sauces supplier, which operates from 50,000 sq ft manufacturing plant, to strengthen its position in the UK bakery industry and enhance its offering to customers.

The first launches from the former Fruitapeel operation are branded under Puratos’ Topfil premium fruit fillings range, and are being rolled out alongside two complementary variants to the company’s Satin Crème Cake line.

The Topfil Select Blackcurrant & Hibiscus and Topfil Select Strawberry, Cucumber & Mint fruit fillings are inspired by the trends for floral and alcohol-inspired flavours, said Puratos. Both are freeze and thaw stable and can be used in applications including topping or filling for pies, cakes and mousses.

The company is also launching limited-edition Satin Crème Cake Buckwheat Mix and Satin Crème Cake Summer Berries Mix to tap consumer interest in ancient grains, as well as the summer trend for berry flavours.

“By tapping key consumer trends, and designed to deliver consistently superior results, we are confident these new mixes will provide distributors with the inspiration and capability to offer their customers innovative, exciting and high-quality solutions this spring and summer season,” said Puratos UK digital and communications manager Lydia Baines.

Puratos is also rolling out a vegan scone mix following the introduction of its first vegan cake mixes last year.

The mix is described as having buttery notes and being versatile enough to use in a range of applications, from scones and swirls to cobblers.

“Our vegan scone mix will offer our customers the chance to tap into the growing trends for vegan afternoon tea options,” said Baines.
