Next week British Baker is exhibiting at Farm Shop & Deli Show and here is our guide of what you should do while visiting it, Foodex and Food & Drink Expo.
1) Check out the best bread in Britain
Britain’s Best Loaf, the nation’s premier bread competition, returns on Monday, 18 April at Farm Shop & Deli Show. The competition, which is sponsored by Rank Hovis, is being judged between 9 and 11am. A Rank Hovis Masterclass takes place at 11.30am at the presentation area in the exhibition, with the winner being announced at 1.45pm. Tweet about the competition using #bestloaf.
2) Deliciously decorated cakes
Charlotte White, AKA the Burlesque Baker, will be giving a cake masterclass at Farm shop & Deli Show on Tuesday, 19 April at 11.30am. She will be joined by British Bakereditor Martyn Leek who will be asking about her career and inspiration for her latest bakes.
3) Gluten success story
The gluten-free phenomenon shows no sign slowing, with the amount of manufacturers turning to the sector increasing year-on-year. But in 2009 pioneering bakery brand Genius transformed gluten-free bread from a niche health-store product to an innovative supermarket staple. Discover what inspired this journey as award-winning founder Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne shares the challenges she faced on the path to creating a globally-respected brand at 10.45am on 19 April at Food & Drink Expo.
4) Great British Bake Off
Love it or hate it, there can be no denying the TV show has sparked a huge upturn in interest in the baking industry. Last year’s winner Nadiya Hussain shows off the skills that wowed the judges, and talks about her unique baking techniques, in a live demo session at 10.45am on 18 April at Food & Drink Expo.
5) Heavy metal
Need some new kit for the bakery? Then Foodex has you covered. A host of leading machinery manufacturers and distributors including Reiser, Mono, Brook Food Processing Equipment and Rademaker, to name a few, will be exhibiting at this must attend event. All the exhibitors will have plenty of machinery on their stands to demonstrate the latest in automated baking techniques. Mono Equipment will be showing off the new 2-Pocket Roll Plant which will produce up to 3,200 rolls per hour at stand P250,
6) Baking Industry Award winner demonstration
Award-winning baker Mark Bennett will be hosting a live bakery at Foodex on the Brook Food stand H251. He will be baking bread across the three days and he will also be running three demonstrations which will alter each day, offering visitors a chance to see his skills in action.
7) Pizza the action
The Tromp Group is available on stand L239 and will be showing a range of its equipment, including lines for pizza, sheeted bread, pastry, waffles, cakes and pies.
8) Industry advice
Do you need advice on a HR or legislation issue? If so, the Craft Bakers’ Association will be on hand at Foodex. Visit stand E220 for vital industry help and assistance.
9) Training day
Where a business gets the next generation of bakers from is of huge concern to the industry, especially with the Trailblazer scheme due to start later this year. For the lowdown on how to plug the skills gap join the discussion on the centre stage at Foodex at 11.30am on 19 April.
