Bakers are hoping Brits will be saying ‘I love you mum’ with flour rather than flowers this Mother’s Day (10 March) as they unveil a host of sweet treats to convey the message.

There are cakes galore, as well as less traditional Mother’s Day treats such as doughnuts, macarons, and cinnamon buns. Take a look at what bakers have on offer here:

Cake and flowers bundle, Lola’s Cupcakes

Why choose between cake and flowers when you can have both? Lola’s Cupcakes has teamed up with Your London Florist to offer just that. Customers can choose between a box of six cupcakes or a light vanilla sponge cake layered with raspberry compote and smothered in smooth vanilla buttercream finished with a hand-piped ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ message. The cupcakes come in seasonal flavours including Lemon & Elderflower, Raspberry & Rose, and Vanilla, all finished with an array of showstopping toppings including ‘mum’ plaques and dried edible petals. The bundles start from £60 and are available for delivery nationwide.

Also available are Mother’s Day Brownies (£17.70) topped with pink and white ganache and edible flowers, as well as vegan and gluten-free cupcakes (£21.30) in chocolate and vanilla variants.

Mother’s Day Macarons, Biscuiteers

Biscuiteers are making macarons for Mother’s Day. Available in boxes of six (£16), the macarons are made using a traditional French recipe with one of each of the following flavours included – Tea & Biscuit, Vanilla Blackcurrant, Lemon Drizzle, Pistachio, Coconut & Mango, and Rose & Raspberry.

Iced Cherry Bakewell Tarts, Mother’s Day

The Bakewell Tart Shop, which has been the home of the traditional Bakewell Tart for more than 100 years, has unveiled its special edition personalised Mother’s Day Iced Cherry Bakewell Tarts.

The Bakewell Tarts are carefully crafted by skilled bakers, using a pastry shell, a layer of raspberry jam, ground almonds, frangipane mix, and then topped with icing and a cherry. They follow a traditional recipe, which creates what is called a ‘wet mix’ meaning the tarts are noticeably moister than ones found elsewhere, according to the bakery.

They’re available online or from the bakery’s store in the heart of Bakewell. The personalised Bakewell Tarts can either feature a traditional Mother’s Day message, or the words can be provided by the customer (up to 20 characters). They cost £17.15 per 6” diameter tart (including postage).

12 Days of Kindness biscuit tin, The Biskery

Leeds-based female-led artisan bakery The Biskery is looking to empower mums through the medium of biscuits this year with its 12 Days of Kindness biscuit tin.

The decorative tin comes filled with 12 signature jam biscuits which are based on The Biskery’s bestselling Jammies made using a traditional family recipe with jam sandwiched between crumbly Linzer biscuit dough. The biscuits are embossed with different affirmations such as ‘You are amazing’, ‘special’, ‘loved’. Available for nationwide delivery, the tin is priced at £29.95.

Cinnamon buns, Gail’s Bakery

Buns not roses – that’s the message from Gail’s Bakery this Mother’s Day as it looks to support a ‘more sustainable approach’ to gifting on 10 March. It argues that roses are not in season in the UK in March, but its flaky cinnamon buns are freshly baked on these shores and, as such, has positioned its cinnamon buns (£3.60 for one or £26 for eight) as an alternative option for the occasion.

The bakery is also offering an Afternoon Tea Hamper to make mums feel extra special. The hamper, priced at £72, contains four scones, Rodda’s clotted cream, Gail’s organic jam and Seville orange marmalade, four brownie bites, five honey cakes, four smoked salmon and avocado yoghurt sandwiches, four avocado and chickpea sandwiches as well as loose leaf Jing tea.
