Warburtons has achieved its goal of donating one million products to community groups this year.
The milestone was marked by chairman Jonathan Warburton, the fifth generation Warburton to lead the business, visiting a local Bolton school. Warburton visited Church Road Primary School – which is located a stone’s throw from the bakery’s flagship bakery in Bolton – to help to distribute products, including the brand’s Toastie loaves and crumpets.
The pledge to donate one million products was made through the Warburtons Foundation, which aims to support families across the UK through community hubs including schools and food banks. Additional support offered by the Foundation includes a financial giving programme and ‘Bake the most of life’ which helps to tackle the gap in food education.
“Our family business has been supporting local communities since we began and it remains incredibly important to us to this day,” said Jonathan Warburton.
“I am really pleased we reached our commitment to donating one million products this year, it’s been a delight to visit Church Road Primary School today to meet some of the children our donations go towards supporting.”
Deborah Docherty, headteacher at Church Road Primary School, added that it was “extremely important” that children attending school aren’t hungry.
“The donation today will not only support our children in school but provide them with something to take home as we know that there are many families for whom a loaf of bread is a great help right now,” she said.
Britain’s largest bakery brand is now looking to increase its donations in 2023 by setting a target of 1.25m products distributed to community groups.
“Things are difficult for so many families at the moment and we recognise how vital it is that we continue to listen and act so that we can help play our part in supporting families across the country as best we can,” Warburton added.
