Ingredients company Edme is supporting Coeliac Awareness Week, following the instalment of its gluten-free mill earlier this year.
The firm has been developing a range of different gluten-free flours, including those made from chickpea, fava bean and linseed.
In support of the awareness week, the company has gifted a selection of gluten-free cakes and biscuits to the Ipswich Coeliac UK Group for its AGM.
James Smith, sales director at Edme, said: “Sales of gluten- and wheat-free products rose 15% in 2014. Bakers and food manufacturers want to supply gluten-free food with better texture, taste and nutritional value. So they’re always looking for new ingredients – and, of course, want the highest possible quality - for processing and functional reasons as well as impact on the end-product.
“We’re delighted to be building relationships with the Colchester and Ipswich branches and are pleased the cakes and cookies went down well at the AGM. It was our way of giving a shout-out for Coeliac Awareness Week.”
Coeliac Awareness Week runs from 11-17 May, and aims to help people become conscious of the disease and the symptoms to look out for.
