Food-to-go supplier Simply Lunch has unveiled a state-of-the-art innovation centre at its existing site in Croydon, London.

Dubbed the Innovation Lounge, the centre is described as a ‘dynamic hub for creativity and collaboration’ and features a fully equipped kitchen to allow the dedicated team of development chefs to hold tastings and development sessions.

It also includes a ‘uniquely designed’ retail environment that simulates store conditions. This, Simply Lunch said, allows the business and its partners to visualise products on the shelf and delve into the science of retail merchandising optimisation by analysing consumer behaviour and shelf placement.

The firm said the opening marks a significant milestone in the company’s growth as well as its commitment to driving innovation in the food-to-go market.

“We are committed to working closely with our customers to develop new products that not only meet consumer expectations but exceed them. This state-of-the-art facility allows us to do just that,” said Sam Page, Simply Lunch managing director.

In addition to its focus on product development and customer collaboration, the new space offers modern workspaces for Simply Lunch’s team including space for staff events.

It added that the facility includes eco-friendly design elements and practices to align with the company’s commitment to sustainability. These include a board meeting table made from repurposed timber and use of reclaimed furniture. As part of its sustainability journey, the business teamed up with regenerative agriculture specialist Wildfarmed at the beginning of the year to create a new ciabatta range aimed at helping to reduce its carbon footprint.

The business has been creating and delivering sandwiches and other lunch options for over 40 years. Recent investment in its operations has increased manufacturing capacity by 30% to enable it to keep up with demand for its products. With these improved capabilities, additional production lines, and further investment in electric vehicles to expand its delivery fleet, the company anticipates 100% growth over the next four to five years.

“We are excited about the future possibilities that our Innovation Lounge brings,” added Page. “It not only reflects our growth but also positions us to better serve and innovate for our customers.”
