Zizzi and Sainsbury’s team up for takeaway pizza trial

Pizza restaurant chain Zizzi has partnered with Sainsbury’s to pilot a takeaway scheme.

The trial, which began yesterday (7 December), is taking place in the Balham Sainsbury’s store in South London. Customers will be able to order Zizzi’s stone-baked Rustica pizzas either in the Sainsbury’s store or via Click & Collect on Zizzi’s website, and pay at a dedicated takeaway checkout at the counter. Takeaway items will also be available for home delivery via Deliveroo.

The move, according to Zizzi, represents the change in customer dining habits and growing demand for replicating restaurant experiences at home.

“We are extremely excited about our new partnership with Sainsbury’s. Changing consumer lifestyles have created opportunities within casual dining, we have seen delivery sales grow rapidly behind the increased demand for restaurant-quality food enjoyed at home,” said Zizzi CEO Steve Holmes.

“Offering our signature Rustica pizzas to go in Sainsbury’s is a natural progression in offering another convenient way for customers to purchase their favourite pizza, ready to eat.”

Sainsbury’s director of fresh food, Adrian Cook added: “We’re committed to offering our customers an even greater choice of delicious, high-quality food in our stores and, by working with some of the best high street food brands such as Zizzi, we’re attracting new shoppers.”

It comes less than a month after Sainsbury’s began a pizza pre-ordering trial at three of its stores, a move that sees the retailer go head to head with the likes of Domino’s.
