Proper Cornish has teamed up with Levi Roots to launch a three-strong range of Jamaican Patties.

The range includes a vegetable, a chicken and a beef option. Each patty will have the “distinct” flavour of Levi Roots’ extra hot jerk Reggae Reggae sauce, which includes scotch bonnet chillies.

The range comprises:

  • Levi’s Jerk Vegetable Patty: slices of sweet potato, peppers and sweetcorn combined with Reggae Reggae extra hot jerk marinade
  • Levi’s Jamaican Jerk Chicken Patty: chicken breast, sweet onions and potato with Reggae Reggae extra hot jerk marinade
  • Levi’s Caribbean Jerk Beef Patty: seasoned beef, onions and potato combined with Reggae Reggae extra hot jerk marinade

Proper Cornish said the trio would bring the “wonderful taste of the Caribbean” to the UK food-to-go market, taking inspiration from patties being a classic street food item in Jamaica. It added that many people aren’t aware of the Caribbean patty’s original heritage which stems from Lord Falmouth taking the Cornish pasty to Jamaica, where it was given a makeover.

Levi Roots has had a string of product launches and store listings since its founder appeared on Dragons’ Den in 2007, where he received investment from two ‘dragons’. The sauce then gained listings at most of the major retailers, and is now part of a line up of sauces, snacks, frozen food and soft drinks which have also launched under the Levi Roots brand.

The range of Proper Cornish Levi Roots Jamaican Patties will be available from September.
