The Cornish Bakery has been forced to shut one of its shops following a fire.
The company confirmed its Colliergate Bakery in York (pictured) would remain closed for a few weeks after it was hit by a blaze last Thursday (4 October).
The three storey premises suffered “extensive fire damage to its first and second floors”, according to North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.
Steve Grocutt, founder and owner of The Cornish Bakery, said all procedures had been “swiftly activated and followed”.
“We are thankful that no-one in our team, or in the vicinity was hurt, in any way,” he said.
“Our popular Colliergate bakery will be closed over the next few weeks whilst we repair the damage and our much valued team members will either be relocated within our network, or will have their salaries covered so this does not inconvenience them in any way.”
In its incident summary, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said the fire is believed to have started in an extractor fan due to an electrical fault.
The Cornish bakery has 45 sites across the UK and recently opened in Fowey, York, Keswick and Southwold.
