Frozen pizza brand Chicago Town is to enter the chilled category for the first time with a three-strong range called Stonebaked Deli Crust.
Available from 9 October, the pizzas have an rsp of £5 and feature hand-stretched dough topped with a variety of ingredients by the delis of Chicago. The three variants are:
- Straight Up Salami topped with mozzarella, shaved Monterey Jack, mozzarella pearls and calabrese salami
- Chicago Hot which features mozzarella, chorizo and a Roquito chilli peppers
- Cheeeese Feast is hand-topped with grated mozzarella, mature cheddar, diced emmental, shaved Monterey Jack and mozzarella pearls.
Chicago Town said the move comes after extensive research which showed a gap in the market for a chilled American-style pizza, as opposed to the more traditional Italian ones.
“We’ve identified that our new chilled range will allow our gooey, messy goodness to reach new consumers that may not have tried Chicago Town pizzas before,” said Paula Wyatt, head of marketing at Dr. Oetker.
There have been several new chilled pizzas unveiled this week, including some by Waitrose & Partners as part of its premium own-label revamp. Tesco has also added a mushroom pizza to its portfolio as part of an affordable own-label range of plant-based foods.
