Scotland’s Stag Bakeries has landed a supply deal with Marks & Spencer (M&S) as part of its new Taste of the British Isles initiative.
The bakery, based in Stornoway in the Isle of Lewis, has a six-month contract with the retailer - its first big supply deal down south.
The business will be supplying more than 400 M&S stores with two of its products: Stornoway Seaweed Oatcakes (£3/125g) and Stornoway Seaweed Water Biscuits (rsp: £3/150g).
Donnie Matheson, general manager of Stag Bakeries, said: “We supply various wholesalers and distributors, but nothing as big as M&S.
“We are currently focusing on the UK and Irish market and trying to get more of our products into that.”
The bakery also produces a range of other savoury products, such as cheese straws and sweet shortbreads, which it also hopes to get down south. Matheson said that there would be ongoing improvements to the factory as the business expanded.
The retailer has launched the range of products to celebrate British and Irish cuisine - and will roll it out into 411 stores this month.
Amongst the range are 19 branded lines from suppliers and more than 300 own-label products.
