A pumpkin spice cake and Bakewell slice are among the new cakes being unveiled this autumn.

They tap into several trends anticipated to take hold of the cake market in the colder months, including the use of warmer flavours and meeting consumer need for ‘small moments of joy’.

It’s that time of year when pumpkin spice dominates the coffee and cake market, Patisserie Valerie is one of the players to tap into it this year with a new celebration cake.

The cake is layered with pumpkin, coffee and cinnamon cream cheese and adorned with caramel flicks, chocolate plaques and a fiery design the colour of autumn leaves. It’s available as a celebration cake for nationwide delivery or individual slices in Patisserie Valerie’s stores.

Frozen food distributor Central Foods has unveiled a new squidgy chocolate roll for the foodservice sector as part of its Menuserve range.

Described as ‘light and squidgy’, the flourless sponge is rolled and filled with whipped cream and rich chocolate ganache before being dusted with cocoa.

“This is a super versatile product for the foodservice sector that can be served at different occasions, including as part of an afternoon tea, as a beverage accompaniment or as a tempting light dessert,” said Gordon Lauder, managing director of Central Foods.

The chocolate roll joins an extensive range of ‘thaw and serve’ Menuserve desserts and puddings offered by Central Foods and has been launched just in time for Christmas menus.
