A vegan egg replacer from Australian supplier Orgran has won the top prize at the UK’s Free From Food Awards this week.
Judges described Vegan Easy Egg – which is free from the 14 major allergens – as “seriously innovative”. Comments included: “A fantastic product, so clever, so adaptable, so useful”, and “such an amazing egg lookalike!”
Other winners included Asda Free From Four Seeded Brown Rolls and Wildcraft Bakery Buckwheat Sourdough Loaf (pictured right) taking gold in the bread category. Wildcraft’s sourdough also won gold in the Best Product from a Start Up category, while Nairn’s Rosemary & Seasalt Flatbread won gold in the Savoury Snacks and Crackers category.
“We had fantastic entries this year and, not only excellent products, so many of them free of multiple allergens,” said awards director Michelle Berriedale-Johnson. “Free-from is most definitely still moving onward and upward in every way.”
Free From Food Awards judges included manufacturers, chefs and cookery writers, dietitians, nutritionists, coeliacs and allergy sufferers.
