Adelie Foods has launched a range of toasties across retail and foodservice operators under the Urban Eat brand following a £1.3m investment in grilling technology.
The company has claimed to be the first food-to-go brand in the UK to invest in this technology, which Adelie said has the ability to handle a range of premium bread carriers, precisely grilling each product to the correct temperature and texture.
The automated machinery includes freezing technology that allows products to be distributed to several UK locations, remaining “fresh and full of flavour”.
The investment comes as the business ceased production at its Middlesbrough plant and relocated its Midlands distribution centre from Leicester to Tamworth.
Martin Johnson, CEO of Adelie Foods, said its investment in new grilling technology marked a natural progression for the brand to respond to the ever-changing lunchtime market.
“We are committed to bringing our customers the on-trend, high-quality food options they really want and, over recent years, the toastie has gained immense popularity,” said Johnson. “Today, people are looking for toasties with top-of-the-range ingredients, delicious flavours and, importantly, the perfect texture and visual appeal.”
Adelie supplies a range of retail and foodservice customers with over 3 million fresh sandwiches every week.
