Yorkshire pudding favourite Aunt Bessie’s is expanding into the ambient cake category through a licensing agreement with Bright Blue Foods.
The nine-strong range of traditional cakes and pastries will launch in Tesco this month in the ambient cake aisle. The products have been selected following consumer research and will include tarts, loaf cakes and sharing cakes.
The tart collection features almond Bakewell tarts, raspberry and coconut tarts and jam bakes. Each comes in packs of four with a MRRSP of £1.25.
There are three flavours of loaf cakes on offer: carrot cake with real cream cheese frosting and a dusting of cinnamon; a sticky ginger cake, made with real stem ginger; and a jam and coconut cake. Each has an MRRSP of £1.50.
Three round sharing cakes are also in the range: carrot cake, fruit cake and chocolate cake. Each has an MRRSP of £2.30.
Bright Blue Foods, formerly owned by the McCambridge Group, is a major supplier to UK retailers. It claims to bake nearly one in every 12 packaged cakes bought in supermarkets.
