Bread giant Warburtons is moving its 800g White Baker’s Bloomer into 100% recyclable packaging.
The new paper bag for the loaf is fully recyclable at home with paper and card collections, the company said, and ‘supports consumer desire for more sustainable packaging’.
The change follows the launch of the bread maker’s Seeds and Grains range, which saw Warburtons move into fully recyclable paper packaging for the first time.
“As a fifth-generation family business, we take our impact on the world around us really seriously and are always looking at how we can innovate, and improve,” said Darren Littler, innovation director at Warburtons.
Earlier this year, Warbutons told British Baker that it has “always taken its responsibility to the environment seriously”.
“We must minimise our impact on the environment, while making a positive impact on the society which we are part of,” a Warburtons spokesperson said. The company added that it knows “sustainability matters to its customers and consumers”, and it works closely with its “family of suppliers – from our farmers to our ingredients, packaging and vehicle manufacturers” to identify opportunities and achieve progress.
Warburtons is a signatory to the Courtauld Commitment 2030 agreement, which was set to up help UK food and drink operators achieve global environmental goals. The company is also a partner of the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP), which works with governments, businesses and communities with the aim of delivering practical solutions to improve resource efficiency around the world.
The Seeds and Grains range, launched in April 2022, and the change to fully recyclable packaging for the 800g White Baker’s Bloomer form part of Warburton’s five-prong environmental strategy focusing on carbon management, ethical sourcing, packaging, food waste, and people and communities.
“Making the packaging fully recyclable is also just another step in the right direction for us and we are thrilled that we are able to offer a more sustainable option to packaging that does not impact the freshness of the loaf,” said Littler.
Warburtons Baker’s Bloomer is currently listed in Tesco, Co-op, Sainsburys and Asda, with a current RRP of £1.75.
