The Christmas excitement seems to build earlier and earlier each year, as bakers, retailers, and more unwrap their festive fare while the sun is still shining.

There are new products aplenty with twists on classics such as mince pies, Christmas puddings, and stollen, as businesses embrace on trend flavours and warming spices.

French patisseries have also provided inspiration for many of the desserts to be found in supermarket Christmas ranges.

Waitrose, for example, has unveiled a Golden Bûche de Noël which is described as a luxurious take on the French classic.

“The Golden Bûche de Noël showcases flavours of blonde chocolate, caramelised biscuit and salted caramel, making it truly decadent,” Emily Bundy, partner & dessert product developer at Waitrose, says. “We also wanted to bring an element of personalisation, so we’ve added a sugar sachet to each pack so that customers can bake their own sugar bark to decorate it with.”

Asda, meanwhile, has infused several of its creations with its signature flavour for 2023 – brown butter and spiced dark rum. The flavour appears in mince pies, stollen, shortbread, and even savoury vol au vents.

Speaking of savoury delights, seasonal savouries have also been given a glow up with a Pigs in Blanket Topped Steak Pie from Tesco, Camembert & Cranberry Savoury Profiteroles from Asda, and mini Smoked Salmon Eclairs from Waitrose among those on offer this year.

With much more still to be revealed, the excitement will continue to build through the festive season.
